Description

Perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri warns of ‘a raw sensation’, yet what we smell is refined and comforting. Baraonda is an oriental woody fragrance that paints an abstract picture of autumnal pleasures: a glass of whisky by the fire; a punch of red berries, quince and apples simmering in the kitchen; an open book resting on your lap that, as the pages turn, releases the dry scent of lignin (wood pulp). A touch of caramelised resin surfaces now and then, without ever dominating. Baraonda has a boozy, woody and gently gourmand character, yet never turns too sweet.

Nasomatto is Italian for ‘mad nose’, and is the nickname of Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri, who creates the most singular fragrances in his Amsterdam studio. In complete freedom, without any regard for existing conventions.

Alessandro reveals little about the ingredients he uses. For him, what matters is the fragrance as a whole and the wearer’s own interpretation of it. His highly concentrated extraits de parfum are unlike any other scent. Each quite different from the next, yet always original, intriguing, rebellious and intense: they linger on the skin for a very long time. Full of sex, drugs and rock and roll, and still entirely wearable.
