Why personal skincare advice matters

Many skin concerns look alike while the cause can be entirely different. Skin that feels dry, for instance, is not always dry skin. Sometimes it is simply short of moisture. Redness, blemishes, pigmentation and a tight feeling can each have several causes as well. A product that is perfect for one person will therefore not automatically work for someone else. That is exactly why we set such store by personal advice. We look not only at what you see on the surface, but above all at what is happening within the skin. Only once you understand why a concern arises can you choose an approach that genuinely suits your skin.

The concerns we see most often

In our boutiques we meet women with all kinds of questions about their skin every day. Sometimes there is one clear concern, but often several play out at the same time. Many women notice their skin changing during the menopause, with dryness, pigmentation or a loss of firmness. Hormones can play a considerable part in this.

Signs of skin ageing are another common reason to seek advice: fine lines, a loss of volume, a duller appearance or skin that feels less firm.

We also see many women wondering why their skin feels dry and tight. Sometimes it really is dry skin, but a lack of moisture often plays a part too.

Darker patches on the face can have several causes. If you would like to know how pigmentation forms and what can be done about it, you will find a full explanation in our knowledge base.

Skin that flushes easily or reacts to products is common as well. If you want to understand why your skin becomes more sensitive, it helps to know more about the skin barrier and the effect of external triggers.

We are also asked more and more often by women who suddenly find themselves breaking out again. Hormonal changes are frequently behind this. You can read more in our explanation of how acne later in life develops.

Ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C and niacinamide are often named as the answer to all sorts of concerns. Which ingredient suits which question is set out in our guide to active ingredients for your skin.

Why one product is rarely the answer

Many people go looking for the best cream for wrinkles, the best serum for pigmentation or the one product for sensitive skin. In practice, skin concerns are rarely down to a single factor. Skin with pigmentation may be short of moisture at the same time. Sensitive skin can show signs of ageing too. And women with acne later in life are often dealing with hormonal changes or a compromised skin barrier as well. That is why we always look at the whole picture. The right routine usually combines cleansing, protecting and repairing, supported by active ingredients that suit your skin.

Which active ingredients suit your skin?

Ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C and niacinamide are more popular than ever. Even so, not every ingredient suits every skin or every question. Retinol is often used for skin ageing, while vitamin C is a common choice for pigmentation and a dull complexion. Niacinamide, in turn, is widely used for redness, sensitivity and skin repair. On our Active ingredients page we explain which ingredients are used most and which concerns they suit.

How a skin analysis works

During a skin analysis we look beyond the visible concern. Among other things we assess the condition of the skin barrier, hydration, sensitivity, pigment formation, skin texture and signs of ageing. Many women come in with one question and discover that several factors are at play. That is perfectly normal, and it is why personal advice tends to get you further than working your way through product after product. Our specialists take the time to look at your skin properly and put together advice that suits your skin, your stage of life and your goals.

When is it worth asking for advice?

Personal skincare advice is worth considering when:

– Your skin changes suddenly and you do not know why.
– Products that used to work are giving less result.
– You are dealing with several concerns at the same time.
– You would like to start using active ingredients such as retinol or vitamin C.
– You are unsure which skincare suits your skin.
– You want to work on your skin in a focused way.

Our specialists are glad to help you understand your skin and choose an approach that fits. That way you build, step by step, towards skin that feels healthy, comfortable and radiant.

If you have questions, or are unsure which approach suits your skin best, you are always welcome to call or drop into one of our boutiques for personal advice.
