A tight feeling that will not go away
Almost everyone knows the feeling of dry skin after a day out in the cold. With a compromised skin barrier that feeling often lingers for longer. The skin feels tight, struggles to hold on to moisture and seems to need care constantly. As a result, some women apply cream more and more often in the hope that the feeling will disappear. This tends to bring temporary relief, but the tight feeling soon returns. That is a sign the skin needs more than extra hydration alone.
What we often see in our boutiques
In our boutiques we regularly speak with women who feel their skin has suddenly changed. They tell us, for example, that their skin reacts more sensitively to products they have used for years. Others notice that their skin becomes redder after cleansing, or that make-up sits less well because the skin looks drier and more unsettled. Strikingly often, there is no new skin type or allergy at play. The skin barrier has simply become unbalanced. We see this after periods of stress, for example, during hormonal changes, or when someone has used many different active ingredients at once. Once the focus shifts to repairing the skin barrier, we often find that the skin calms down again and responds better to care.
