A lack of moisture leaves the skin feeling tight
Moisture plays an important role in keeping the skin supple. When moisture levels fall, skin cells lose some of their volume. The skin then feels less elastic and can start to feel taut or tight. Many people immediately think of dry skin, but a lack of moisture does not automatically mean you have a dry skin type. Combination or oily skin can also be low in moisture. That is why it helps to understand the difference between the two. In Do you have dry skin, or dehydrated skin? Understanding the difference. you can read how to tell them apart.
Age and hormonal changes often play a role
As we grow older, the skin changes. Sebum production decreases and the skin holds on to moisture less easily. As a result, many women find their skin becoming drier than before. Hormonal changes often have a considerable influence on this. During the menopause in particular, the balance of moisture, lipids and collagen in the skin shifts. Skin that felt comfortable for years can suddenly begin to feel dry or tight.
