For founder Heidi, the Babassu adventure began back in 1998, in a picturesque little street in Leiden. Time to look back at how it all began and to ask her all about it.
How did your love of cosmetics actually begin?
“Then we have to go back a long way. Years ago, while I was training as a beauty therapist and working in a perfumery, I was inspired by a colleague who could talk about perfumes and cosmetics, and advise on them, so beautifully. It captivated me, and I fell in love with the profession.”
Why did you start Babassu?
“I wanted to create an oasis of beauty and relaxation in the city centre, a place where you can escape the daily rush for a while. Where you are given a warm welcome, find inspiration in skincare, perfumes and body care, and can let yourself be thoroughly pampered.”
What does Babassu actually mean?
“Babassu is a South American palm tree found mainly in Brazil. The nuts from this tree are the strongest in the world and contain precious babassu oil, which is used in many cosmetics and hair care products.”
