Wood & Absinth by Mark Buxton is a woody, aromatic fragrance. Buxton had the idea for this perfume on a sun-drenched evening in Corsica, sharing a glass of absinthe with a good friend. This drink, based on anise, fennel, lemon balm, herbs and wormwood, became popular in the 19th century, particularly among artists, who appreciated the hallucinatory effect of the ‘green fairy’. Absinthe was banned for a time but has since been permitted again, to the delight of perfumers among others, who draw eager inspiration from it. The contrasts of that evening in Corsica, on the border between day and night, warm and cold, sea and land, can be found in Wood & Absinth. The fragrance opens with fresh citrus fruits, given a sweet undertone by sage and anise. Through a floral trail of jasmine and rosewood at the heart, the base reveals the essence of Wood & Absinth: a blend of wormwood, one of the base ingredients of absinthe, with vetiver. The result is an airy woody scent that lingers.
