Night cream

A night cream supports the skin’s natural repair process while you sleep. Through the night, the skin works actively on repair, hydration and cell renewal. A good night cream helps the skin carry out these processes, so it looks fresher, smoother and more comfortable by morning.

Why does your skin need different care at night?

During the day, the skin is largely in protection mode. It contends with UV radiation, air pollution, changes in temperature, stress and dehydration. At night, the focus shifts from protecting to repairing. The skin renews itself more quickly and, at the same time, loses more moisture.

This is why the skin often feels drier or tighter in the morning when night care has been lacking. A night cream helps to limit moisture loss and supports the skin with nourishing, restorative ingredients.

What exactly does a night cream do?

A night cream helps to hydrate, nourish and support the skin intensively during its repair through the night. Many night creams contain ingredients that are less pleasant under make-up or SPF during the day, yet work especially well overnight.

Think of ingredients such as retinol to support skin renewal, hyaluronic acid for intensive hydration, peptides for firmness and niacinamide for a more even, calmer complexion. With consistent use, the skin often looks smoother, plumper and better hydrated.

A night cream also helps to support the skin barrier and leave the skin more comfortable and resilient. This is the role of restorative ingredients such as ceramides, fatty acids and niacinamide. They matter because a compromised skin barrier leads more readily to dryness, sensitivity and fine lines.

Why is a night cream often richer than a day cream?

A night cream usually has a richer texture because the skin needs more nourishment and repair overnight. During the day, many people prefer lighter products that feel comfortable under SPF or make-up, whereas a night cream can care for the skin more intensively.

That does not mean every night cream has to feel heavy or greasy. Moisture-poor skin often calls for richer care, while combination skin tends to respond better to a lighter night cream that hydrates yet feels less rich.

Which night cream suits your skin?

Dry or more mature skin often benefits from a nourishing night cream that helps to retain moisture and keep the skin comfortable through the night.

For sensitive skin, it is important to choose a formula that supports the skin barrier and helps to calm the skin. Combination or oilier skin usually suits a lighter texture that hydrates without feeling heavy.

Many people also pair their night cream with a serum, such as a hydrating serum, an anti-ageing serum or a restorative serum, so it can do its work through the night. An essence, eye care or facial oil can offer the skin extra support overnight too.

When might you see results?

Many people notice within a few days of using a good night cream that the skin feels more comfortable and supple. For visible improvement in dryness lines, radiance or firmness, consistent use is important.

The skin renews itself continually, so good night care makes the clearest difference over the longer term, in the skin’s hydration, smoothness and radiance.
