What is it?
The freesia is a corm-growing plant native to South Africa, distinguished by five to ten funnel-shaped flowers in white, yellow, lilac or pink. It also has a soft, pleasant scent. The corm is well suited to pots or small gardens, as it takes up little space. A long stem rises from the centre of the leaves, carrying a crest of graceful, orchid-like flowers. Even in the vase, the freesia keeps growing happily.
A symbolic flower
The flower became popular in Europe around 1766, when it found its way into French and Italian court gardens. The freesia symbolises unconditional love and innocence, which is why it became the traditional flower for celebrating a seventh wedding anniversary. Tradition has it that you give your partner white freesias, a symbol of pure love. In 1830, the South African botanist Ecklon named the corm Freesia, after his German friend Freese.

What does it do?
The freesia (freesia caryophyllacea) is not only one of the first flowers to bloom as spring arrives, it also has benefits for your health and wellbeing. The pleasant, fresh-sweet scent of freesia essential oil helps to improve mood and concentration and to ease stress. This fresh, youthful scent is often used in aromatherapy to relieve stress, anxiety and sleep problems. How to use it?
The freesia accord was first used in a fragrance creation in 1985. In perfumery, the freesia note is floral, fresh, lightly sweet, fruity and slightly powdery.
